Talented artist

There are many talented artists that have walked on this planet. Michelangelo, Leonardo da Vinci, Adolph Tidemand, Salvador Dali and Rembrandt van Rijn are some of my favorites. However, there are also many utterly talented pencil artists that I know of today. I have added a couple pictures from three of these talented artists! There is one artist however, that really put a lot of work in his drawings. He actually draws for more than 700 hours on one drawing! Check out his website. He might be one of the very best artists today, and I hope to achieve somewhat the same drawing quality that he dose when I reach his age. His drawings are absolutely amazing, but do not loose your motivation! You should aspire to get better, and remember he has been drawing all his life. I have only been drawing seriously for 3 years and I have improved my skills a lot.
And fellow artists, if you temporary hit the wall, please do remember:

What to draw?

I know it can be quite a struggle to think of something good to draw. You should ask yourself; what do I like? What means something to me? Maybe you should make something conceptual? Or if you are only practicing you should find an interesting reference. Here are my tips:

  • - Reptiles - their skin often has great details and reflections!
  • - Water – try to draw a picture with water in it. It’s quite a challenge
  • - A family portrait or your pet
  • - Cars – always a winner! But it’s hard to draw the perfect geometry
  • - Insects – find an enlarged detailed picture of i.e. a fly or a wasp
  • - Your favorite actor/actress or artist
  • - Landscape and architecture – an old castle, Times Square or Dubai skyscrapers
  • - Shiny things -like metal, sunglasses, ice bricks, jewels

Getting ready

Well, patience is the key to a good drawing. Therefore you will probably spend many hours in front of the paper with your pencils. Being comfortable is therefore very important. So this is what you should do:

  • - Put on your favorite music, radio or even a good sound book
  • - Clean your desk and organize the art supplies
  • - Good lighting and a comfortable chair
  • - Keep food & drinks safely away from the drawing
  • - Make yourself Cup of coffee or warm chocolate
  • - "Focus and concentration!”
